As a comparison of this chart, https://www.macrotrends.net/1369/crude-oil-price-history-chart to your chart, shows, US gas prices at the pump broadly trend with global oil market prices.
After the sharp Covid drop (bringing oil prices down to as low as $12/barrel by April 2020) the price rose to a high in late Oct. 2021 of nearly $83/barrel. Not out of line with pre-Covid prices. By Dec 6 the price was down to $69.49.
On Dec. 7, 2021, in response to actions by Putin, Biden warned of sweeping Western economic sanctions if Putin invaded Ukraine. And prices have been rising steadily on the global market ever since (which only makes sense because Russian is such a huge oil exporter...free market and all, that's how it works).
Of course, we could have simply turned our back on the democratic nation of Ukraine (like Trump did, denying weapons unless he received a political favor from them). And certainly, it wouldn't be the first time we’ve coddled autocrats and kings because of economic imperatives (Saudi Arabia comes to mind).
So yes, for those who would turn their backs on our nation’s global friends, on the global rule of law, on democracy in general, they can call Biden a liar and say it’s his gas prices at the pump.
Is that you?
