I must respectfully disagree.
Respect isn't shrinking or disrespect growing. What is growing is the means to communicate disrespect. To show disrespect. And to more easily troll for those to disrespect. Marks are easy to find online. The disrespect was always there, just below the surface, not growing.
Respect has not been defeated. Democracy is built upon a foundation of respect for ourselves, for our ability as individual humans to build, together, a world we can all live in. Failure abounds, but if we give up on respect we've given up on ourselves.
