Religion divides. The comfort it provides is the comfort of being part of a group of like-minded people. Innocous as far as that goes. But then throw in the idealism, the absolutism, and the religious-minded become susceptible to themselves having, and being the object of, us v. them prejudice (and often far, far, worse). That's not beautiful.

And as far as humans being too feeble-minded to understand. Balderdash! The 'things' of our world, including ourselves, exist as how we see them. As you yourself put it, 'how we view the world and God, is all up to the individual.'

What more do you need to understand!
