‘They,’ again. But it isn’t us v. them. It’s us. All of us.

You were in the military, as was I (Navy nuke submariner). Did you swear allegiance to the right side, or the left side, or to the whole country? And while personally I haven’t seen any burning going on (at least not since Jan 6) I will take your word for it that you have, and that you are concerned about it. I only ask that you take my word for it that I too am concerned, if not about burning, specifically, then about other things I see happening.

We both have concerns. Denigrating each other won’t solve your problems or mine, and mostly serves to make them worse. And when it comes to name calling…you have to freely will yourself to take the high road.

That’s what being a citizen in a democracy is all about, free will, freely exercised. If we citizens use our free will to fight each other, name call each other, denigrate each other, rather than vote for each other--if we let that get out of hand it won’t be a democracy for long.
