Toxic individualism, as you put it, has always and will always be part of the human dynamic. There is a counter balancing 'toxic collectivism' which would ignore the rights of the individual in favor of the needs of the collective...at least as seen from the perspective of those decreed (by whatever manner, and often self-decreed) to 'know' those needs.

Fascism is a form of it. Even, ironically, the Republican Party, as evidenced by the near lock step talking points and voting record of the elected members. You can spout all you want about liberty and freedom in the party as long as you always vote the way the maximum leader tells you to vote!

I do take your point. But don't let it poison your view of humanity! Call me toxically optimistic, but in my estimation we have a long, long way to go as a species. If we but keep the faith in ourselves, the faith that despite our faults we truly are worthy of living and thriving (which we are!) as part and parcel of this glorious universe, then we're really only getting started...

Thanks!
