US citizen here. Thanks for the perspective!

I have to disagree on the 'crumble' part. I recall in the 1970s, post-Vietnam War, being forbidden from wearing my military uniform off base. We were reviled as war mongers.

To that degree, we were 'crumbling' then.

There is a deep-seated distrust of government in general in the US that goes back to the infancy of our nation. It has reared it's ugly head in a big way. But ultimately to distrust a democratic government is to distrust oneself, for a democracy is a government of oneself, of one nation of many citizens governing themselves.

Distrusting oneself always backfires. It's merely a question of how much damage you do to yourself in the meantime. And right now, we're in damage control mode.

Unlike his predecessor, President Biden is a not a 'look how great I am' kind of guy. He gets things done without fanfare, behind the scenes. Just this week he hosted a 'Summit for Democracy.' Little fanfare, but potentially great and far-reaching consequences. That's Biden in a nutshell.

Perhaps in the states we do make fun of our Canadian neighbors. But, having traveled frequently to Canada in the past, my recollection is that Canadians often make fun of themselves. It's an endearing quality!

Take care! And don't give up on us!
